To become a Salesforce administrator, learn the platform on Trailhead, build real projects in a free practice org, pass the Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator exam and then get hands-on experience with real users and data. From zero, the learning and certification steps take roughly four to six months part-time, by our estimate. Our Salesforce administrator career guide covers each step and how to land the first role.

What is a Salesforce administrator?

A Salesforce administrator is the person who configures and maintains an organization's Salesforce system, so that sales, service and other teams can use it well. Admins manage users and security, build objects, fields and page layouts, automate processes with Flow, keep data clean and create reports and dashboards. The matching credential is the Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator, formerly called Salesforce Certified Administrator.

How do I schedule a Salesforce certification exam?

You schedule the exam by starting from the credential page on Trailhead, which links to Salesforce's exam registration system, and choosing either an onsite testing center or online proctoring. Pay the US$200 registration fee, plus local taxes, when you book. We could not check the registration pages themselves, so follow the current steps shown on Trailhead and read the exam-day rules: no notes or online materials are allowed.

Are Salesforce admins still in demand?

Salesforce admins remain a common hire wherever companies run Salesforce, but employers usually want hands-on experience as well as the certificate. Salesforce added an Agentforce section to the exam, which shows the role now includes setting up AI agents. We do not quote demand statistics because no official source tracks this job title. Our career guide covers how to stand out.

Is the Salesforce admin exam hard?

The exam is manageable with hands-on practice but hard if you only read, because questions are scenarios about which feature to use. People often mix up sharing rules and the role hierarchy, profiles and permission sets, lookup and master-detail relationships, and the Data Import Wizard and Data Loader. You need 68% in English. Our free practice test shows where you stand.
